Salcura Bioskin Products Review & Giveaway ***CLOSED***

I was asked by the lovely team at Salcura if I'd like to try out some of their award winning products from their Bioskin range to celebrate their relaunch. They are ideal for those of us that have dry skin problems such as eczema or psoriasis. As I do suffer with eczema on my hands I was keen to try them out. When my hands get bad I apply a prescribed steroid cream which I'm not keen on doing because it thins the skin.
One aspect that made the Bioskin products particularly appealing to me was that they contain naturally active ingredients. Free from the steroids, SLS, parabens, lanolin, phthalates, antibiotics and paraffin.
Salcura state these products are gentle on the skin and work with it to aid its own natural healing process.  The re-launched  products contain the same formulas, the same ingredients, now in one unified therapy system and with a brand new product, DermaSerum. Thse products are suitable for adults and children over 12 years old.
I've been giving these products a good try over the past couple of months, here a my thoughts.

When I excitedly opened up my box of goodies I quite liked the re-lauch packaging, simple and sleek making it easy to read what's on the box.
The first product I tried was the face cleanser, I am a big fan of face wash and would choose it any day over other cleansers, therefore I was looking forward to my next face wash!
Its key ingredient is sea buckthorn, rich in nourishing omegas. The packaging states it is sourced from a coastal plant.
Orange in colour, it's not the most pleasant looking face wash but it smells great. I find it to have a fresh and fruity scent which reminds me of oranges. It lathers up nicely and leaves my skin feeling squeaky clean. Although I don't have any dry skin issues on my face, I felt happy I wasn't using something full of parabens etc. I'm impressed with how long the bottle has lasted, it's still going strong now!

After my face had been cleansed I used the derma serum just like a moisturiser after washing my face both in the day and night. It rubbed in to my skin easily and left it feeling smooth and moisturised. As it's in a smaller bottle it didn't last as long and ran out in just over a month, which isn't bad considering I was using it twice a day.
I'm not sure if it was one or a combination both of the products I was using on my face but a few days after starting to use the products a few spots came out on my chin area. I personally didn't find that an issue as I know a change in skincare can cause spots and they disappeared pretty quickly.

I found the body cleanser had a similar scent to the face cleanser with a gingery hint. Like the face cleanser, it's key ingredient is sea buckthorn and it is enriched with omega oils, vitamins and minerals.
As I don't suffer with eczema on my body I can't comment on how it helped with dry/itchy skin but I can say my mind was at ease as I was using another product free from SLS, artificial fragrance, paraffin and lanolin. Again the bottle is a generous size and lasted for ages, it would have lasted for longer if my other half hadn't have been using it too!

The last two products I have been using are the Dermaspray and the Zeoderm. The Dermasparay is intended for regular daily use as a source of moisture. It's recommended as an alternative to the usual emollient creams.  It aids healthy skin growth 'by nourishing new  skin cells in their early development'.
The  Zeoderm is an alternative to steroid creams, something I avoid as much as possible. Its key ingredient is natural volcanic zeolite which is sourced from volcanic deposits. On the box it is advised to be used alongside the Dermaspray 'when skin is going through a particularly bad phase'.
I was really intriuged to see how well these products would work as my hands to suffer with eczema more than usual these days!
I really like the natural scent in both of these products, the Dermaspray has a recognisable tea tree smell, which I love as tea tree products have worked on my skin since I was a teenager. The Zeoderm reminds me of Turkish rose scent.
I began by using these two products at night before going to bed, I sprayed the Dermaspray on my hands and rubbed it in before applying the Zeoderm cream. Both are absorbed quickly and easily and felt really soothing on my skin.
For the first few days I noticed the eczema around my hands was clearing up. I must admit I have been a bit rubbish at using products consistently on my hands. When my hands began to feel better I forgot to keep using them. When my skin became irritated again I resumed using them but I didn't feel they were working as well. I explained this to the PR who'd sent me the products and she advised me to use them more frequently during the day. Again I must hold my hands up and admit I didn't really do it, mainly because when I'm at work I'm so busy I literally don't have the time to remember to apply it. I'm paying the price now as my hands have some extremely dry/sore patches at the moment!

Overall I really enjoyed sampling these lovely products and think they're worth trying out if you suffer with the skin issues mentioned above, or simply if you are looking to avoid products with all the 'nasties' in them.

I do have a giveaway to win all the Bioskin products I tried out (see photo below) for one lucky person to win!Enter via the Rafflecopter.

* I was sent these products in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own.

Are You Carbon Monoxide safe? & Giveaway CLOSED

When we lived in London our flat was completely powered by electricity and some solar power. In our new house we have a supply of both gas and electricity.
A few weeks ago my mum and I were discussing carbon monoxide detectors. My parents had one but needed a new one and I wanted to get one for our home. I've read and heard quite a lot about carbon monoxide poisoning in the past and want to ensure we are safe at home.
Every year in the UK, more than 200 people go to hospital with suspected carbon monoxide poisoning, and around 40 people die. Small children and the elderly are most at risk, CORGI HomePlan is campaigning for every home to get a carbon monoxide detector, so that they can keep their family safe. In the last three years, an estimated one in six homes inspected by the Gas Safe Register was found to have an unsafe gas appliance and one in eleven has an unsafe boiler.
Our boiler played up on Good Friday which meant we had to pay a small fortune for it to get repaired. We were also advised to get it serviced regularly.
CORGI are campaigning for all homes to install a CO detector. They have created a microsite to help families become more aware about the dangers of gas appliances in the home. http://corgi-homeplan-how-safe-is-your-home.org/ It's filled with advice and what to look out for if carbon monoxide poisoning could be affecting you. It's an easy reference resource for those of us unsure how to stay safe in the home and what to do if things do go wrong.
We now have a carbon monoxide detector at home, do you? If not CORGI are giving one away! Enter via the Rafflecopter!

Polagram Personalised Calendar Review & Giveaway CLOSED

A few  weeks ago I was contacted by Polagram and asked if I'd like to review one of their products. If you haven't heard of Polagram they are a company that print photos directly from your smartphone, it really is as simple as that! I'm always taking photos on my iphone whether it's to the camera roll or to upload to Instagram or other social media sites, so this sounded like the perfect option for printing those photos easily.
Once you've downloaded the app you can choose what product/s you'd like to order. You can choose from a selection different sized prints, including polaroid style prints, the polaroid prints are also available in a giftbox of 36 prints. A poster is another option which displays 35 images, along with iphone cases and a photobook. Seeing as it's coming up to the end of the year I decided to select their personalised calendar to review.

Once I'd selected the calendar option I needed to choose 12 photos to upload. I gave permission for Polagram to access my Instagram and Facebook account, this enabled me to have a larger range of photos to choose from.
I chose a photo from that month the year before (if that makes sense), they are mainly of Eliot! I found the easiest way to select the photo for the month I wanted was to choose the pictures in order. So the first picture I selected would be January and so on. It does also give you an option to organise you photos once you have selected your images.
Once I'd done this I chose four photos from my selection that I wanted on the front cover. Polagram gives the opportunity to 'shuffle' these until you're happy with the four photos. Once you're satisfied with your calendar layout you can add more products or go through to the checkout.

When the calendar arrived I couldn't wait to see it! Unfortunately there was an issue as there had been a problem with the printer so another one was sent out.
When I received the amended calendar I was really impressed with the finished product, the quality of the calendar is great and I love all the photos I chose!
December is a few days away which means Christmas is almost upon us! If you're still thinking about a gift for someone the personalised calendar would make a perfect pressie. It can be personalised and tailored to an individual/couple/family in a few simple steps. You can purchase for £16.90 and other currencies are available to pay in.
I do have one personalised calendar to giveaway to one lucky reader! You will need a smartphone to be able to download the app. Just enter the rafflecopter for your chance of winning!
If you can't wait though here's a code for £2 towards Polagram products PG5EL1FO
*Disclaimer I was sent a personalised calendar in exchange for my honest opinion

Organix Little Book Of Weaning GIveaway-CLOSED

This week Organix are launching 'The Little Book Of Weaning'. They have been speaking to parents to find out their main concerns and worries when it come to weaning their babies. From that they have come up with  their 'The Little Book Of Weaning'.
Weaning can be a daunting time, I remember buying bits and bobs in advance and thinking about whether to go down the puree or baby led weaning route. In the end we started with purees but moved on to more baby led weaning. I think you need to experiment with what works for your baby and family but only what you feel comfortable with.

The Little Book Of Weaning is available as a free download but I've teamed up with Organix to offer not one but three lucky readers a chance to win a hard copy! All you need to do is enter the rafflecopter.

Mum Kind Review & Giveaway-CLOSED

A few weeks back I was sent some 'Water Our Way' and 'Soothing Ginger & Chamomile Lozenges' from a new pregnancy nutrition brand called Mum Kind. They have recently been launched in over 300 stores and Amazon.

Mum Kind's mission is...

'to make it easier for women to take care of themselves, and therefore their growing babies, whilst juggling life in the real world'.

There are currently a selection of products available, nutrition bars, a bedtime drink, along with the water enhancer and lozenges.
Mum Kind have secured backing from a number of nutritionists and doctors including Dr Emma Derbyshire PhD RNutr, who is an established nutritionist and active researcher in maternal nutrition.
The Water Enhancer...
It's berry flavoured with added B vitamins and has 10 servings in the handy sized bottle. It doesn't contain any caffeine, artificial colours or flavours which is perfect for expectant mums. The added B12 helps reduce tiredness and fatigue and B6 helps regulate hormone activity. All you need to do is squeeze some into a glass/bottle of water.
I love the fact it comes in a small portable bottle which is easy just to pop in your bag if your out or taking it to work.
Personally I love water and I was lucky enough not to be put off it with pregnancy symptoms when I was expecting Eliot but I would've loved to tried this back then to see if it helped with tiredness. I think it's ideal for women who aren't keen on water and/or  are looking for a drink minus any artificial additions.
I've been trying it out myself and really like the fruity berry flavour. I can't comment on whether it's helped with tiredness as I think the tiredness you experience during pregnancy and being a new mum is different! It is refreshing and I would definitely try it again if we have another baby.
The Ginger & Chamomile Lozenges...
Contain soothing properties of natural ginger and chamomile, come in clear wrappers and a reusable tub that is freezer and microwave safe.
They can be taken whenever you like to help and again are free from any artificial flavours or colours.
I am not keen on ginger, unless it's in the form of a biscuit which I believe has a very different taste to when it's used in its more natural form. Therefore I didn't really like the lozenges, it is just a matter of personal taste. I'm sure those of you who do like ginger would enjoy them very much!
For one lucky expectant or new mum I have a 'Water Our Way' and  'Soothing Lozenges' to giveaway!

Tomorrow My Blog Turns 1!

Teacher 2 Mummy
I can't believe that a year ago tomorrow I published my first blog post which was all about how I discovered I was pregnant. You can read it here if you fancy it!
The time has flown but over that year I have been lucky enough to have some wonderful opportunities, working with brands, meeting other lovely bloggers, attending events. By far my favourite experience has been getting know other bloggers and meeting some of them. So far I have only experienced the 'friendly side' of blogging and I'm grateful. There really is a sense of community there and I love it!
I would love to say a big thank you to anyone that reads my blog, whether you pop by now and again, are a regular reader or have just stumbled across it now! I love the fact that I have memories to look back on that perhaps could be forgotten if I hadn't written about them on my blog.

As my blog is turning one I have a few giveaways planned over the next few days so pop back to see what you could win!

COMPETITION-Toogiez Giveaway (CLOSED)

I get excited when parents themselves come up with innovative products. After all we're the ones that see what makes our kids tick, keeps them happy, soothes them, reassures them etc. So who better to design and produce new products?!
This is what happened when two mums from New York decided to set up a business together, they came up with Toogiez. It's a venture that's live over on kickstarter now.

Toogiez are the loveable toys that attach to a specially designed toogiez t-shirt with velcro, as pictured.
There are a range of Toogiez available to suit your child's tastes and/or mood. I love the concept, as well as being changeable and interactive for children they also offer reassurance too!
I have seen lots of positive feedback from others bloggers who are reviewing the toogiez via posts and social media.
They are suitable for children aged 2-8 years so Eliot is too young for them but I do have one to giveaway!!!
So to win a t-shirt and two toogiez of your choice enter the rafflecopter below! The competition is open worldwide!

REVIEW & GIVEAWAY - Essential Baby Care Guide DVD

The Essential Baby Care Guide from The Essential Baby Company was launched in Tesco back in February. There are six individual DVD's Introduced and narrated by Professor Robert Winston , Breastfeeding, Formula Feeding, Introducing Solids, First Aid,  Your Baby's First Month and Sleeping (RRP £3.99 each). The full DVD covering all of the above is also available (RRP £19.99). All are available from Tesco and the full DVD is also available from Amazon.

I was recently sent the First Aid DVD to review. I'll be honest and say I had no idea about baby resuscitation and the recovery position for baby's. The DVD shows you how to administer to babies under one. I suppose they are both things that hope I will never have to do. But none of us know what is round the corner, within family, friends or events we may encounter out in public. I am so glad that I now have more knowledge about strategies to implement should I experience an emergency!

The DVD has several sections...
  • Baby recovery position
  • Baby resuscitation
  • Baby choking
  • Bee Stings
  • Epi Pens/Auto injections
  • Burns and Scalds
  • Baby Sprains
  • Baby Wounds
  • Baby Poisoning
Each and every section offers invaluable  advice. Advice in many of the sections that could save lives!

'All topics are explained clearly by experts in the field including, midwives, teachers, doctors & consultants, first aid trainers and nurses from organisations such as The Royal College of Paediatrics, St Johns Ambulance and UNICEF'

What I particularly found useful in the First Aid DVD was the clear explanations and demonstrations of how to carry out the first aid required.  A recap of key points at the end of each section is great too. It is helpful to hear other parents share some of their experiences.

This is perfect for all expectant parents/parents of babies. The majority of us do not have the time to book on a first aid course and this is a informative solution that can be done in your own time at home. It is advised in the DVD that you do take a first aid course but in the meantime this gives you vital information.

You cannot put a price on life or health, this is fantastic resource to inform your first aid knowledge. I highly recommend adding this to your DVD collection!

I am pleased to be able to offer one lucky reader the chance to not just win one of the guides, BUT the entire collection, all on one DVD! All you need to do is enter via the Rafflecopter below.
Each entry will be verified and the DVD will be sent to the winner by the company, not myself.
